Job Description:
This position is located at 2360 South Service Road West, Oakville, Ontario.
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
This position provides safe, timely and effective delivery of goods from the Salvation Army Distribution Centre (DC) or other assigned locations as well as collection of donated materials from donor locations and delivering them to Ministry Units, Thrift Stores, or other assigned location. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Incumbents may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below.
Truck Driver
- Operate a range of vehicles including 3- and 5-ton commercial trucks, cube vans, and panel vans, in compliance with Ministry of Transportation regulations.
- Perform and document daily vehicle circle checks; monitors vehicle condition throughout the day and ensures proper fuel and fluid levels are maintained.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date Commercial vehicle operator's registration (CVOR) log in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Load and secure cargo safely; may use equipment such as forklifts or hand carts and assist with pallet/skid preparation.
- Accurately count and document delivered items and submit required paperwork promptly.
- Support clean and safe environment in vehicle(s), warehouse, and yard areas, report maintenance and service needs in a timely manner.
- Present a clean and professional appearance, wearing identifiable Salvation Army insignia when required; maintain courteous and cooperative interactions with ministry units and the public.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving abstract; promptly reports any infractions or concerns to the supervisor.
- Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner, reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
Warehouse:
- Perform shipping and receiving of goods.
- Loading and off-loading of trucks using powered and manual MHE.
- Operate various types of forklifts to move and store goods in warehouse according to warehouse layout plan.
- Inspect goods received for quality, damage, expiry (use-by) dates; document, rotate, and store stock appropriately to ensure maximum yield is achieved.
- Build skids of fresh, frozen and/or dry goods for delivery.
- Sort and categorize food and non-food items.
- Accurately count and weigh product being delivered or shipped.
- Assist with inventory reconciliation (cycle counting).
- Use Warehouse Management System/Inventory Management System to record and facilitate warehouse operations.
- Perform general cleaning and Maintenance: tasks of warehouse, yard, and equipment as required.
- Inspect powered and manual material handling equipment to ensure safe use.
- Replenish/put away materials utilizing reach truck to navigate narrow aisles.
- Order planning and order release tasks as required.
General:

Prepare, complete and submit documentation in a timely manner as required.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Adhere to the Salvation Army Policy & Procedures and Health & Safety Guidelines.

Wear the appropriate safety and Personal Protective Equipment and maintain a clean uniform.

Ensure all work is completed in a safe manner, in accordance with TSA, WSIB, CVOR, and all other regulatory requirements.

Other related duties as assigned.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: Ministry Unit leadership, staff, and volunteers. Work cooperatively with Supply Chain Warehouse Manager/Workers, Drivers, and volunteers
External: donors, vendors, contractors, general public, community organizations, guests/clients of ministry unit in person.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the DRC Manager.
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Expected to exercise sound judgment in the use of organizational and personal resources. Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines
- May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.
- Safe material handling and picking up/delivering donations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent full time position
- Working environment is typically in a distribution centre or in a program vehicle.
- May be exposed to various temperatures and outdoor conditions.
- The work requires frequent amount of sitting while concentrating on driving a vehicle.
- Some walking, bending, repetitive lifting, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs is required.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule during peak and/or seasonal times may be required.
All Salvation Army NRO employees are required to wear safety shoes at all times in all Store and DRC locations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of High School Diploma.
- Valid full driver’s License for the province; an original copy of a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- In some cases, a current forklift operators’ certificate may be required.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
- A minimum of 1 year of safe driving experience.
- Strong navigation skills.
- An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $20.75 to $20.75 with a maximum of $20.75.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
