Syl Apps Youth Center is located in Oakville, Ontario, at Trafalgar and the QEW. SAYC is licensed by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and is a not for profit organization providing paediatric mental health services in Ontario for more than 40 years. SAYC is a 24/7 facility with youth living on site in a secure setting. The youth attend school and receive therapeutic and mental health supports daily.
Reporting to the Regional Admin Manager - Syl Apps Youth Centre, the Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible to work, within an interdisciplinary team, in maintaining the building systems & infrastructure (HVAC, plumbing, life safety, electrical, security, structural, exterior landscaping) in optimum condition while working closely with colleagues, tradespersons, engineers, consultants, regulatory inspectors, Infrastructure Ontario and its agents. The Maintenance Mechanic will also be responsible for carrying out minor repairs throughout the facility (including painting, carpentry, flooring, furniture, grass cutting, etc.).
This position is covered by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 213 group.
Hourly Pay Range - Step 1: $27.96 - Step 2: $29.52 - Step 3: $30.77
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform maintenance, minor repairs and preventative care to the facility and equipment. Building and machinery upkeep & maintenance Scheduling/liaising with trades and contractors for third party contracts Safe maintenance and working procedures Conduct routine service, maintenance & inspections on HVAC & plumbing systems Ability to view and make changes to BAS, Building Automation Systems Auditing and improving maintenance processes Complete and enforcement of all duties in accordance with Kinark’s Health and Safety Policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Occasional overtime/after-hours as well as to share the on-call phone duties with other team members. Rotating shift work will be required as part of building systems and infrastructure maintenance.
Qualifications:
Licensed tradesperson or working towards license (i.e. electrician, plumber, industrial maintenance mechanic, HVAC mechanic, etc.) is required Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the field Experience working in a large centre or facility such as a school, recreational centre, or hospital would be an asset. Must be able to work in an unpredictable & changing environment Must be able to multi-task Experience in electrical, carpentry/painting, plumbing, heating and air conditioning required Must have good verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate to all levels. Must be self-starting, inwardly motivated and a proactive individual. Needs to be able to work productively within a team with minimal supervision. This position will require rotating shift work This position requires good visual acuity and some lifting and bending. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
