Overview:

Position Summary

The Collision Paint Technician is responsible for performing high-quality automotive refinishing work in an OEM certified collision center. This role ensures each vehicle receives precise color matching, proper surface preparation, and professional finish application in accordance with OEM standards and dealership quality expectations. The Paint Technician works closely with prep staff, body technicians, and production teams to maintain efficient workflows and deliver exceptional results that support customer satisfaction and safety.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply basecoat, clearcoat, primers, and other refinishing materials following OEM approved procedures.
  • Perform color matching and blending to meet exact OEM specifications.
  • Inspect pre-paint surfaces for repair quality and ensure all panels are properly prepared for refinishing.
  • Mix paint materials using OEM paint systems and maintain accurate color formulas.
  • Operate spray booths, paint guns, and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct final finishing work including polishing, buffing, and correcting minor imperfections.
  • Protect nonpainted vehicle surfaces through proper masking and containment techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment, including equipment cleaning and booth maintenance.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including PPE usage and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with technicians, parts staff, and production team members to meet repair timelines and cycle time goals.
  • Participate in ongoing training, OEM updates, and refinishing certifications as required.
  • All other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of collision painting experience in a body shop or OEM certified environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive refinishing processes, color matching, blending, and modern paint systems.
  • Experience operating spray booths, refinishing tools, and surface prep equipment.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to produce high-quality finishes consistently.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • OEM refinishing certifications, ICAR Refinish training, or manufacturer specific paint training are assets.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
