MACHINE OPERATOR
GODERICH MANUFACTURING PLANT
Job Summary
The Machine Operator in our structural steel weld shop is responsible for operating, maintaining, and monitoring fabrication machinery used in the production of steel components. The operator will be primarily cutting, drilling, bending, swaging of raw materials. This role supports welding and fabrication processes by ensuring materials are cut, shaped, and prepared accurately and efficiently according to blueprints and specifications. Experience using overhead cranes, drill press, bending equipment, saws, rollers and jigs are an asset.

Job Duties
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints and work orders to verify material requirements and specifications.
- Measure, mark, and position steel components for cutting and processing
- Load and unload raw steel materials using overhead cranes or other warehouse equipment
- Use a variety of equipment for: cutting, drilling, bending, swaging etc. to complete tasks as assigned and complete daily work assignments
- Ensure proper care of machinery and supplies including machine set up and troubleshooting.
- Monitor machine performance and adjust settings to ensure precision and quality
- Inspect finished pieces to ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances.
- Report equipment issues, defects, or discrepancies to Supervisors
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and work area
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Assist other workers when needed.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective and courteous manner with coworkers and supervisors.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements
- Good communication skills
- Energetic individuals, able to work in fast paced environment with high productivity
- Physical stamina requiring standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks
- Strong time management and ability to meet production deadlines
- Experience overhead cranes, drill press, pipe bending equipment, saws, rollers and jigs an asset
- Experience and demonstrated ability to safely operate various material handling tools and equipment
- Able to read tape measure is a must (using imperial)
- Basic math and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to work extended hours of work as necessary to ensure deadlines and priorities are met, including overtime and weekends
Work Conditions
- Standing for up to 10 hours per day and other physically demanding conditions
- Frequent movement: lifting (up to 60lbs), carrying, bending, turning and pulling.
- Industrial/shop environment with exposure to: noise, dust, welding fumes, moving equipment and machinery
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment as per company standards (safety glasses, gloves and steel-toed CSA certified boots)
Hours of Work
- Weekdays (4 shifts – 6:00am – 4:30pm). Subject to change based on business needs.
- Willingness to work extended hours of work as necessary to ensure deadlines and priorities are met, including overtime and weekends.
