Role Description This full-time Utilities Locator role is an on-site position based in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, ON. The Utilities Locator will use locating equipment and GPR to identify and mark underground utilities such as gas, water, sewer, and telecommunications lines prior to excavation. Daily tasks include reviewing locate requests and drawings, performing field inspections, documenting findings, and preparing clear reports and diagrams. The role involves communicating with site supervisors, contractors, and property owners to explain locate results and ensure safe work zones. The Utilities Locator will follow all company and regulatory safety procedures, maintain equipment, and support damage prevention best practices on each project. Qualifications
Knowledge of the utility industry and underground utilities, including basic understanding of infrastructure systems and damage prevention practices. Experience or familiarity with excavation environments, construction sites, and safe work procedures around heavy equipment. Strong computer literacy for using mapping software, digital locate tickets, reporting tools, and basic office applications. Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and team members, and for producing clear written reports. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to perform physically active fieldwork, including walking and lifting equipment. Attention to detail, strong observational skills, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to travel within the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or a related field is an asset; relevant certifications or training in locating or safety are beneficial.
