Reports To Production Supervisor
Summary The Steel Production Welder is responsible for all aspects of the production welding process, including safety, quality control, equipment operation, process monitoring, and various support activities. Welders will perform general duties, including but not limited to, blasting, paint coating, general labourer duties, and other related tasks as assigned.
The use of various hand tools, machinery, and equipment will be required to manufacture and join metal products. This position will work with Supervisors to ensure continuous improvement in work cells, managing quotas, and welding according to preset CWB/AWS parameters using GMAW welding processes.
Job Duties
- Ensures implementation and adherence to health and safety regulations; actively promotes safety and encourages safe work practices
- Maintains quality manufacturing practices and processes; follows defined procedures/inspection criteria, and takes appropriate action on actual and potential problems
- Maintains a productive and efficient work environment
- Measures, marks, cuts, and welds steel materials
- Ensures all CWB and AWS standards and regulations are applied to all welding activities
- Operate manual welding equipment to fuse metal segments using the GMAW process
- Operate manual flame-cutting equipment
- Detail oriented while applying blueprint instructions to fitting and welding of assemblies
- Collaboratively and actively communicates with teammates and management to ensure customer expectations are efficiently and effectively executed
- Inspects, labels, and packages all completed products
- Applies lean manufacturing principles to everyday duties
- Records labour activities in iERP system to manage costs and schedules
- Participates as an integral member of the team and contributes towards the success of the Company by performing other related duties as required
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a welding industry setting
- Physically fit
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and tape measures (imperial measurements) is required
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines
- Overhead crane training/experience is considered an asset
- Experience with fabrication tools (i.e., Band saw, IW, angle rollers, etc.) is considered an asset
- Experience with Cobot and/or Robotic weld machinery is considered an asset
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and ISO standards is considered an asset

Work Conditions
- This is a plant position located in the Saskatoon Norseman Structures facility
- This is an hourly paid position with a normal 40 hour work week
- Plant setting, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm; occasional overtime may be required
