Trades Helper
About the role
Sinai Health is looking for a Trades Helper to support our Building Services at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The principal responsibilities of the Trades Helper include maintaining, inspecting and monitoring, repair of equipment in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures, applicable safety codes and regulations.
About This Team
The Building Services team is responsible for the essential systems that keep Mount Sinai Hospital safe, functional, and ready to deliver care. This includes chilled water, steam, HVAC, water treatment, medical gas, life safety, electrical systems and fire safety infrastructure. The team closely monitors system performance, responds to emerging issues, and ensures equipment operates within required standards. Work is coordinated with clinical departments, Environmental Services, Infection Prevention and Control, and Capital Development to support safe and uninterrupted operations.
In This Role You Will
Provide assistance to the various tradespeople (plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc.) and other Building Services staff as required; this includes but is not limited to solder, lubricate and clean equipment parts, minor adjustments to conveyors, wheelchairs, minor carpentry repairs, hanging pictures and bulletin boards Assemble and disassembles equipment, such as furniture, stretchers, wheelchairs, etc. Provide general hardware duties including adjustment of knobs, levers and door closures, etc. Respond to work orders, maintains accurate records, provides follow up as necessary Inform supervisor of required parts needed to complete job requisition Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
Job Requirements
Mandatory
Successful completion of a high school diploma 5 years of maintenance experience in a healthcare or other institutional setting Trade or vocational school graduate in blueprint reading, sheet metal work, mechanical drawing, electrical house wiring, plumbing and carpentry
Skills and Knowledge
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics Ability to communicate and read using English in order to effectively perform essential requirements of this position Demonstrated knowledge of Fire Procedures, WHMIS, Health and Safety Act Basic computer skills, some inventory control and ordering skills an asset Ability to work independently and as a team player Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
