We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team specializing in Geohazard Mitigation and Slope Stabilization projects. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, reviewing project plans and specifications, and collaborating with clients, engineers, vendors, and the GRW Sr. Leadership to ensure timely and accurate submissions. This position plays a key role in winning contracts and ensuring project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Project Assessment & Analysis Review project documents, including plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports, to understand project requirements, risks, and challenges, particularly related to geohazard mitigation and slope stabilization. Understand geological conditions, soil stability, and erosion control techniques relevant to geohazard projects.
Cost Estimation Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, equipment, labor, subcontractor services, and any specialized techniques required for geohazard mitigation. Develop cost-effective and efficient solutions for slope stabilization, landslide remediation, erosion control, and rockfall protection projects. Use spreadsheets to ensure accuracy in pricing and resource allocation. Develop contingency pricing strategies based on potential geotechnical risks.
Bid Preparation & Submission Prepare comprehensive bid estimates, including detailed cost breakdowns, project schedules, and risk analysis. Collaborate with the GM, and project management team to ensure all technical requirements are addressed in the estimate. Submit accurate and timely estimates to meet the required deadlines for RFPs and RFQs. Attend pre-bid meetings and client negotiations as necessary.
Collaboration Work closely with the GM and project managers to gather all necessary information for the bidding process. Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to gather quotes and negotiate terms. Collaborate with internal teams to refine estimation processes and pricing strategies.
Risk Management Identify and quantify potential risks associated with geohazard and slope stabilization projects, such as weather-related delays, soil movement, or environmental factors. Provide recommendations for mitigation strategies to reduce risks and unforeseen costs.
Project Handover Ensure seamless handover of estimates to project management and field teams, providing clear documentation and rationale for costing decisions. Support the project team during project execution as needed, offering insight on estimates and addressing any deviations from the original scope.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Geology, or related field preferred. Relevant certifications in estimating or geotechnical engineering are a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating, particularly with a focus on geohazard mitigation, slope stabilization, or similar projects. Experience in preparing estimates for complex geotechnical projects, including landslide repair, rockfall mitigation, retaining walls, and soil stabilization.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, especially related to slope stability, erosion control, and soil mechanics. Familiarity with industry-specific construction methods, such as retaining systems, ground anchors, soil nailing, and shotcrete. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to various stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Work Environment This is a full-time remote position. Work at home, no requirements to be in the office.
Salary CAD$80,000-$100,000 annually
