About the role
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Point of Care Technologist II is responsible for providing strong leadership by coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and participating in the work performed in the Point of Care Testing (POCT) department. This includes effective planning and management of the resources to ensure quality laboratory results are generated outside the confines of the laboratory by non-laboratory personnel. The responsibilities will include developing and maintaining POCT quality assurance programs, problem solving and providing technical and troubleshooting advice to health care professionals performing POCT on a variety of POCT instruments/applications. The technologist will also be responsible for teaching, coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT/CLXTs and/or MLAs. The technologist will have experience with the Laboratory computer systems as well as various Microsoft Office programs. Advanced knowledge of a POCT data management system (e.g. AegisPOC™) and quality program development and support will also be a key skill.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Previous experience in a Technologist II role or back up/designate or leadership/supervisory experience. 5 years related clinical laboratory experience (e.g., POCT, Chemistry) within the last 10 years. Experience with accreditation standards, implementation, and addressing deficiencies. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, direct work assignments, and adapt to stressful situations using tact and diplomacy. Ability to influence others through well-developed oral and written communications. Ability to interpret, explain, and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies, and procedures. Receptive to new ideas and change. Experience with instrument/method validations. Above average proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Connect Care. Experience with the Abbott AegisPOC™ middleware. Experience with multidisciplinary working groups. Courses or training in leadership, change management, and customer service. Completion of the AACC POCT Specialist Program. Ability to work independently and within a team, effectively managing time and setting priorities when faced with multiple tasks and deadlines over a period of time.
