Job Description:

About the Role:

As an Automation Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical support and advanced problem-solving skills for control systems and production process equipment at the Brantford, ON, plant, a manufacturer of quality griddle products.

This role is responsible for driving continuous improvement and modifications of automation machinery and production processes across the facility, ensuring compliance with quality, food safety, and general facility safety standards.

You’ll add value to this role by performing various functions including, but not limited to:

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to the design, installation, and operation of control systems and semi-automated production processing and packaging equipment. This includes mechanical system troubleshooting to maximize line uptime and interfacing with Allen-Bradley PLCs for diagnostics and issue resolution.
  • Modify existing automation systems and design, estimate, and commission new automation control systems.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot process problems while initiating and contributing to continuous improvement and quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot applications involving electrical/electronic instrumentation, data acquisition, Modbus, LAN, Ethernet protocols, and PLC programming.
  • Collaborate with Operations to address design and operational concerns, ensuring optimal control functionality within process systems.
  • Designing and maintaining SCADA/MES software using industry platforms (Ignition and PanelView)
  • Developing Python scripts for automation tasks and custom functionality and work within Ignition's Python scripting environment to create tailored production solutions.
  • Assess and interpret equipment conditions, providing recommendations for repairs and identifying root causes of issues.
  • Lead and manage turnkey projects from initiation to completion, including developing detailed plans, goals, and objectives.

Important Details:

  • This is a full-time, on-site role on the First Shift. Occasional flexibility is required to support alternate shifts.
  • The anticipated compensation for this position ranges from $65,400.00 - 98,200.00 CAD annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics and business or organizational needs. For certain roles, the successful candidate may be eligible for annual discretionary merit compensation award, bonus and equity pay.

You’ll fit right in if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and/or equivalent experience is required.
  • Three to five years in a manufacturing environment; consumer packaged goods or food/beverage experience is required.
  • Strong expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining automation and control systems.
  • Proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLCs, electrical instrumentation, and industrial networking protocols.
  • Experience in designing and modifying automation control systems.
  • Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics using SCADA.
  • Solid understanding of continuous improvement principles and quality standards.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and execute multiple projects.
  • Effective communication and training abilities to support operations and maintenance teams.
  • Commitment to upholding safety, food safety, and facility compliance standards. Proficient with Microsoft Office.
