Position Summary:

The main project will consist in operationalizing the activities of the C-BIG repository. The technician will process biological samples as well as participate in the maintenance of the unit’s data management system.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates with repository sample processing and experiments with laboratory projects and experiments. Performs technical tasks in the fields of molecular genetics and molecular biology. These include serum isolation, DNA and RNA extraction, PBMC isolation, cell cultures, CSF processing. Prepares and maintains solutions, medias and reagents.

  • Records results and compiles data in our computerized databases. Performs QC analysis and basic analysis of results. Identifies and troubleshoots errors in experimental procedures or results. Performs routine computerized and hard-copy backups of data.

  • Maintains repository inventory, storage and database. Communicates with the developer’s team of our repository in order to maintain it. Identifies and troubleshoots wrong data entries.

  • Maintains inventory of reagents, solutions, media, equipment and consumables. Orders reagents, materials and consumables. Ensures cleanliness and safety of the work area. Ensures proper storage, handling, and disposal of materials.

  • Participates in departmental and lab meetings and seminars. May assist with writing of research articles.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Knowledge of biobanking. Experience working with human biological samples is considered an asset. The candidate must have experience with PBMC isolation and DNA extraction. Excellent time management to enable completion of tasks in the appropriate time. Ability to follow standard operation procedures. Attention to detail when compiling data in the laboratory information management system. Good communication skills in English and French. Interest in project management is considered an asset.
