Role Description The Railcar Inspection Specialist is a full-time role based in Moose Jaw, SK, with a combination of on-site railcar inspections and various periodic inspections across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In this role, the specialist performs detailed inspections of railcars to assess safety, compliance, and mechanical condition, following applicable regulations and company standards. Day-to-day activities include recording inspection findings, preparing clear reports, recommending maintenance or repair actions, and collaborating with operations and maintenance teams. This role also involves communicating professionally with clients and internal stakeholders, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to Xpert Rail Consulting’s safety and quality practices. Qualifications Ability to perform detailed mechanical and structural inspections of railcars and related equipment, with strong attention to safety and compliance. Skills in documentation, reporting, and basic data entry to accurately capture inspection results and maintenance recommendations. Capacity to interpret technical standards, operating rules, and regulatory requirements relevant to railcar condition and safety. Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with rail operations staff, maintenance personnel, and clients. Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple inspections, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Comfort working in rail yard and industrial environments, including the ability to work outdoors and perform moderate physical tasks such as climbing and walking on uneven surfaces. Prior experience in railcar inspection, railway operations, or a mechanical/industrial field is an asset. Relevant technical training or certification in rail safety, mechanical inspection, or transportation is preferred. Proficiency with basic computer tools (e.g., email, word processing, excel spreadsheets & other applications) for reporting and communication. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to rail sites around Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba as required.
