About the role
The IP Baler Operators’ primary role is to operate the paper shredder/baler for recycling purposes. Recycling balers are used to compact paper into blocks which can easily be stacked and transported. In addition, they perform a variety of maintenance tasks in the Industrial Park facility as directed by the IP Production Manager.
The successful candidate will work on 3 consecutive night shift as follows:
Early Week Night (EWN) Shift: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, 6 PM to 6 AM

Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED/Mature Student Diploma
- Machine operation experience
- Basic machine troubleshooting and maintenance experience
- Experience operating a forklift
- Effective English use and comprehension
- Essential Math skills (Metric and Imperial measurements, problem-solving, conversion charts, etc)
- Effective use of production-related documents to accomplish job tasks
- Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery, equipment, product
- Demonstrated organization, prioritizing, time and stress management skills
- Able to operate required equipment and use small tools in a safe and responsible manner
- Continuous learning/improvement mindset
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating self-management capabilities
- Able to deal with people diplomatically and professionally at all times
- Excellent manual dexterity
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts
- Must be willing to work at all Friesens facilities as needed
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work and communicate effectively with the Production Manager and co workers
- Ensure the safe, efficient operation, cleaning of and running adjustments of the paper shredder and automatic baler while on shift
- Follow all workplace safety polices and compliance regulations
- Perform routine housekeeping and maintenance tasks as it relates to the workspace and equipment operated/used
- Other duties include but are not limited to the completion of the following tasks as assigned by the Production Manager and according to the schedule:

- Collect production paper waste from all departments
- Operate forklift for the purpose of stacking bales, loading trailers, moving refuse drums/barrels
- Clean recycling and garbage barrels and bins
- Maintain adequate stock levels of cleaning supplies and baler supplies
- Sweeping, and vacuuming floors in baler room as required
- Clean, sweep, and salt sidewalks, snow removal in winter
- Practice daily maintenance of batteries for electric material handling equipment
- Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager
