WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

As an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Safety Specialist Co-op, you will report to the Manager Product EMC and Safety. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Product Certification Site Updates — Improve UI/UX, update content, fix defects, and enhance backend logic for certificate and declaration management.
  • AI Workflow Integration Work with developers to integrate MS Teams–embedded AI features that assist with locating, generating, and validating product certifications.
  • Automation Support — Assist in developing scripts or AI prompts that reduce manual work in certification retrieval and document generation.
  • Testing & Validation — Perform functional testing, identify issues, and verify fixes for the certification platform.
  • Performing product EMC laboratory measurements against EMC standards.
  • Collaborating with EMC specialists on root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Conducting electrical safety testing of products according to electrical standards.
  • Analyzing products against electrical safety standards.
  • Supporting the EMC and Safety team with safety and EMC product testing internally and at remote test facilities.
  • Assisting with various compliance laboratory activities as needed.

This position is located at our Ottawa-Auriga office in Nepean. Our pay rates range from $24 - $35 per hour, based on experience.

WHAT YOU KNOW

  • Enrolled currently in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering Technology, or a related field, with 2-3 years of post-secondary education
  • Proficient in operating laboratory equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) guns, oscilloscopes, and other measuring instruments
  • Knowledgeable in Radio Frequencies (RF) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) compliance testing
  • Aware of test standards: EN 55032, EN 55035, EN 62368-1, FCC Part 15, ICES-003, UL/CSA 62368-1
  • Ability to work effectively in both office and laboratory environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders
  • Be proficient in Microsoft SharePoint, Word, and Excel
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • The ability to occasionally lift, bend, and carry items as required
