The City of Iqaluit is looking for a City Planner to join our team! Title: City Planner Department: Planning and Development Status: Full-time permanent Rate of Pay: $51.71/per hour, 35 hrs/wk Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum Union Status: Unionized Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, The City Planner is responsible for municipal planning activities. In this role, the City Planner will implement the General Plan, Zoning By-law and other policies, and will contribute to and oversee both long-term strategic planning and urban development. The ideal candidate will have the following:
Minimum Level of Education/Training: University Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field APPI/CIP Membership preferred Candidate members will be considered Minimum Level of Experience: 3 years of experience in Municipal or Development Planning Experience in adjacent planning specializations will be considered Technical & Contextual Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Computer software including GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Microsoft Office Ability to work with territorial legislation, including Nunavut’s land ownership system, Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, and other relevant Northern issues Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to communicate and write in plain language Additional Requirements: Valid Class 5 driver’s license Inuktitut Assets: Experience with living and working in Inuit Nunangat On-the-land experience/knowledge within Inuit Nunangat Proficient in spatial analysis Proficient in demography, statistics and current planning methods Note: Equivalencies that include a combination of education, experience, and assets, may be considered at the time of selecting candidates when the requisite skill attainment can be demonstrated. About CITY OF IQALUIT
Iqaluit (/iˈkæluɪt/ ee-KAL-oo-it; Inuktitut syllabics: ᐃᖃᓗᐃᑦ [iqaluit] (meaning "place of many fish"); French: [i.ka.lu.it]) is the capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, its largest community, and its only city. It was known as Frobisher Bay from 1942 to 1987, after the large bay on the coast on which the city is situated. In 1987, its traditional Inuktitut name was restored. In 1999, Iqaluit was designated the capital of Nunavut after the division of the Northwest Territories into two separate territories. Before this event, Iqaluit was a small city and not well known outside the Canadian Arctic or Canada, with population and economic growth highly limited. This is due to the city's isolation and heavy dependence on expensive imported supplies, as the city, like the rest of Nunavut, has no road or rail, and only has ship connections for part of the year to the rest of Canada. The city has a polar climate, influenced by the cold deep waters of the Labrador Current just off Baffin Island—this makes the city of Iqaluit cold, although it is well south of the Arctic Circle.

Iqaluit (/iˈkæluɪt/ ee-KAL-oo-it; Inuktitut syllabics: ᐃᖃᓗᐃᑦ [iqaluit] (meaning "place of many fish"); French: [i.ka.lu.it]) is the capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut, its largest community, and its only city. It was known as Frobisher Bay from 1942 to 1987, after the large bay on the coast on which the city is situated. In 1987, its traditional Inuktitut name was restored. In 1999, Iqaluit was designated the capital of Nunavut after the division of the Northwest Territories into two separate territories. Before this event, Iqaluit was a small city and not well known outside the Canadian Arctic or Canada, with population and economic growth highly limited. This is due to the city's isolation and heavy dependence on expensive imported supplies, as the city, like the rest of Nunavut, has no road or rail, and only has ship connections for part of the year to the rest of Canada. The city has a polar climate, influenced by the cold deep waters of the Labrador Current just off Baffin Island—this makes the city of Iqaluit cold, although it is well south of the Arctic Circle.
