Purpose of the Role
Serve as the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO), maintaining compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, DWQMS, OHSA, and municipal standards. Provide strong operational and people leadership to water treatment staff, blending technical oversight with effective supervision. Oversee maintenance planning, asset lifecycle management, and system reliability across all treatment facilities. Support emergency preparedness and response, ensuring continuous operational readiness, including after-hours situations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership: Lead and supervise the day-to-day operation of Lakeshore’s drinking water treatment facilities, ensuring safe and efficient system performance.
Water Quality: Contribute as an active member of the municipality’s DWQMS team, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Infrastructure Management: Manage infrastructure lifecycle renewal, contractor oversight, and maintenance scheduling to ensure long-term system reliability.
People Leadership: Provide positive, inclusive leadership to water treatment operators and student staff, as well as a safety-focused and collaborative workplace culture.
What You Bring
A three-year Community College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent). Ontario Class 3 Water Treatment Operator’s Certificate (with distribution or wastewater certifications considered an asset). 3–5 years of progressive supervisory experience in a municipal or water treatment environment. Strong working knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act, DWQMS, and OHSA requirements. Proven experience leading regulated operations, supervising staff, and responding to operational emergencies.
