Responsible for performing direct maintenance work for repair, adaptation, re-design, preventative maintenance and installation of all plant mechanical equipment, industrial machinery and infrastructure in accordance with the objectives of the Maintenance Department.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

• Clean, lubricate, and replaces equipment as part of a preventative maintenance program.

• Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings, inspect, examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions, and repair accordingly following work procedures and safety protocols.

• Install, adjust, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools.

• Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes and jacks to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery.

• Complete Maintenance work orders, PM tasks on equipment by due dates and makes the necessary suggestions to improve PM effectiveness based on root cause analysis.

• Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.

• Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.

• Perform other duties as required.

Nature and Scope

• Selects correct processes from clearly prescribed rules, past practices, or instruction. Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from supervisor. Deviations from the norm are cleared by the supervisor.
• Under close supervision, exercises limited latitude/independent judgment. Work typically involves detailed checks or close review of output by a senior coworker and/or supervisor.
• None.

Work Environment

• Usually located in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort, such as dust, fumes, or odors.
• Most of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking and/or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
• Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.

Education and Experience

• Vocational/Technical School
• 6 Months but Less Than 1 Year

Preferred Qualifications

• Machine shop experience an asset.
• Actively enrolled in College/Skilled Trade Program with a Coop program.
• Ability to work independently and as a team.
