Our Corporate Office is looking to grow with the addition of another Tooling Engineer, reporting into the Corporate Tooling Manager. The Tooling Engineer is a key player in ensuring an efficient, innovative, robust and cost-effective approach is used in all of our new tool development. This position will be based out of our Technical Centre in Kitchener and requires International travel to all of our facilities within Canada, the United States and Mexico to support business needs.
The Role
- Manage tool builds to ensure craftsmanship and delivery requirements are met.
- Review and approve all tool designs prior to tool build.
- Evaluate and recommend tooling sources.
- Maintain and continuously refine company tooling standards.
- Support Engineering and Design activity from a tooling perspective including early feasibility reviews.
- Develop costing standards for quoting tools for new business.
- Obtain/develop tooling quotes to support new business activity.
- Continuously seek opportunities to reduce costs, improve quality and reduce delivery times for tooling
- Approve and sign off tools once they have been completed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Certified Mould Maker or equivalent education & hands-on experience
- Must have solid working knowledge of the requirements of tool actions required for the manufacturing of parts (experienced with injection mold designs/build concepts, proficient interpretation/analysis of Mold Flow Reports, developing and reviewing feasibility reports for injection mold design and optimal part design concepts, sound knowledge of metallurgy and mold textures/application processes)
- Exceptional inter-personal and communication skills, both internally & externally, verbally & digitally
- Experience with quoting new tooling from both North American and offshore suppliers
- Proficient experience with MS Office including Power Point, Word & Excel
- Experience with CAD modelling and analysis an asset
- Analytical problem solving & decision-making abilities
- Must be a self-directed person that is also capable of working within a team environment
