Intermediate Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) Location: Vaughan, ON Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 + Benefits Work Arrangement: Hybrid (typically 1 day work from home per week) Your New Company This organization is a well-established consulting engineering firm specializing in the assessment, design, rehabilitation, and modernization of existing buildings throughout Southern Ontario. With nearly three decades of experience, they provide mechanical and electrical consulting services to public-sector and institutional clients including municipalities, school boards, healthcare facilities, government agencies, universities, and other owner-operated facilities. Their projects focus on the renewal and improvement of aging building infrastructure through mechanical system upgrades, capital improvement programs, energy efficiency initiatives, and facility rehabilitation projects. Your New Role As an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer, you will lead and support projects involving the assessment, design, specification, tendering, construction administration, and implementation of mechanical building system upgrades within existing facilities. Unlike traditional new-build consulting roles, this position focuses heavily on existing occupied buildings and requires close collaboration with facility owners, project stakeholders, contractors, and design teams throughout the full project lifecycle. Projects may include: HVAC system replacements and modernization projects Boiler and heating plant upgrades Domestic water and plumbing system replacement projects Pumping and hydronic system upgrades Existing building assessments and facility condition reviews Mechanical rehabilitation and restoration projects Energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction initiatives Capital planning and infrastructure renewal programs Municipal, healthcare, educational, government, and institutional facilities You will be responsible for: Performing existing building investigations and condition assessments Preparing technical reports and engineering recommendations Completing mechanical system designs and specifications Preparing tender packages and construction documentation Managing tendering processes and responding to contractor questions Reviewing bids and assisting owners during contractor evaluation Reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, change requests and contractor submissions Providing construction administration and site review services Evaluating contractor requests for extras and advising owners on entitlement and project impacts Coordinating projects through construction and close-out What You'll Need to Succeed Required Experience Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or actively progressing toward licensure. 5+ years of consulting engineering experience. Proven experience working on existing building projects rather than exclusively new-build developments. Experience preparing: Engineering specifications Tender documents Bid packages Construction documentation Experience managing projects through: Design Tendering Bid review Construction administration Project close-out Experience reviewing: Shop drawings RFIs Change orders Contractor claims and requests for extras Experience acting as an engineering consultant representing facility owners during construction projects. Strong knowledge of: HVAC systems Plumbing systems Hydronic systems Heating plants Water distribution systems Mechanical retrofit projects Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
