To learn more, please visit www.fpeng.ca. Role Overview: As the Special Projects Structural Engineer, you will be an integral part of our building science team. Our primary focus is the assessment, investigation, rehabilitation, forensic engineering, and modification of existing commercial, industrial, institutional, and condominium buildings. We also support select new construction and tenant fit-out projects. The workflow is fast paced; prioritizing tasks is essential to success. The ideal candidate enjoys solving structural problems in existing buildings where documentation may be incomplete and engineering judgment, investigation, and creativity are required. With the help of our team, you will perform the following tasks independently as you work on existing commercial and condominium structures: investigations and condition assessments of existing structures, load analysis of structural systems, prepare proposals, coring reviews, preparing design drawings, design structural reinforcement and retrofits, provide client-facing correspondence, reviewing construction progress on site, and providing contract administration services. Your decision-making will shape project scope, guided by client feedback and relevant data. Frequent travel to client sites will be an essential part of this role. Key Responsibilities: Conducting field investigations and assessments. Assisting in preparing reports, plans, details and specifications for additions/modifications/renovations to residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Analysis and design of structural elements in steel, concrete, and wood. Load check analysis and report writing. Software analysis for new design projects. Independently preparing drawings with specifications, framing plans, sections, details, etc. Involvement in delivering multiple projects, under the guidance of a project manager. Liaising with clients, design team consultants and contractors. Working with senior team members, and taking direction as/when required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; eligibility for P.Eng. or EIT registration in Ontario. Minimum 4 years’ experience in the design industry. Knowledge and experience with the Canadian building and design codes in concrete, steel, and wood is required. Required software experience: SAFE, SAP, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Proficiency in additional structural design/analysis software such as WoodWorks, MASS, ETABS, S-Concrete, RAM, and the like is considered an asset. Good communication, organizational and time management skills. Ability to work autonomously as a self-starter within a team-oriented environment. Access to a car and a valid driver’s license is considered an asset.
