Job summary
We are seeking a high-caliber Automotive Refinishing Technician to lead our paint department. This is a role for a proven professional who holds a Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) and is committed to the highest national standards of automotive repair. As a Journeyperson in our facility, you are the final checkpoint for quality. You will be responsible for executing complex refinishing tasks, ensuring structural integrity of coatings, and upholding the reputation of our shop through flawless execution. Core Responsibilities In strict accordance with the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), you will perform the following Major Work Activities: Production Leadership: Oversee the end-to-end refinishing process, ensuring all work meets or exceeds the Interprovincial Standards for quality and durability. Expert Color Matching: Utilize advanced spectrophotometer technology and manual tinting techniques to achieve perfect color matches on complex finishes, including multi-stage, matte, and high-pearl effects. Advanced Substrate Preparation: Supervise and perform the preparation of diverse substrates (aluminum, carbon fiber, plastics, and ultra-high-strength steel), ensuring proper chemical adhesion and corrosion protection. Precision Application: Execute the application of undercoats, basecoats, and clearcoats in a controlled environment, maintaining strict climate and airflow parameters to prevent defects. Quality Assurance & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and rectify finish defects (such as solvent popping, die-back, or mottling). Perform final inspections to ensure the vehicle is returned to Pre-Accident Condition (PAC). Environmental & Safety Stewardship: Lead the shop’s compliance with VOC regulations, hazardous waste disposal, and OH&S protocols. Ensure all equipment, including breathing air systems and spray booths, is certified and maintained. Mentorship: Provide direct supervision to apprentices. You will be responsible for evaluating their progress, demonstrating advanced techniques, and signing off on their apprenticeship hours and competency tasks. Qualifications & Requirements Certification: Valid Journeyperson Trade Qualification with a Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) is mandatory. Experience: Minimum [Insert Number] years of post-certification experience in a high-volume collision center.
